AACCUP
rates 3 CSC academic programs for Level II accreditation The
Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the
Philippines, Inc., (AACCUP) is conducting this January 24-26 a formal
survey visit to the Catanduanes State Colleges (CSC) in line with the
application for Level II accreditation of its three academic progams - the
Graduate School, College of Business and Accountancy and College of
Industrial Technology. These
three academic programs have successfully earned the Candidate Status
(Level I) during AACCUP's preliminary survey visit in November 1997. Areas
to be assessed are the respective college's delineation of its vision,
mission and goal, the faculty, curriculum and instruction, student
development, research, extension and community involvement, library,
physical facilities and administration. The
Accreditation Team is headed by Dr. Gloria T. Baysa of PUP as over-all
coordinator. She is also the team leader of the Business and Accountancy
Accreditation Team, with Dr. Julita R. Calonge of UEP, Prof. Flordeliza G.
Yboa of PUP, Prof. Melquides N. Pana of CSSAC and Prof. Sofia L. Broncano
of TTMIST as members. Prof.
Cenon B. Arieta of TUP heads the team that will evaluate the College of
Industrial Technology. His team members are Engr. Richard G. Navales of
LIT and Dr. Diogracias A. Malinao of TTMIST. To
evaluate the CSC Graduate Education Program will be a panel of educators
headed by Dr. Nilo E. Colinares of UEP as team leader. His members are Dr.
Epifania S. Gosioco of PAC, Dr. Nelly T. Villas of LNU and Dr. Illuminada
C. Nical of LIT. The
accreditation is carried out to assess the education program with emphasis
on certain standards of quality or excellence based on an analysis of the
merits of its education operation in relation to its objectives. It is
also being done to stimulate and accelerate the institutional growth and
development of educational institutions desiring to achieve excellence,
relevance and effectiveness. Under
the Level II Accreditation, the college will be accorded with benefits and
privileges that includes full administration and financial deregulation,
partial curriculum autonomy, authority to graduate students from
accredited courses without prior approval of the Commission on Higher
Education (CHED, priority in availing funding assistance for scholarships,
library materials, laboratory equipment and other development activities,
and priority for government subsidy for faculty development. They are also
granted the opportunity to use in its publications or advertisements the
word "ACCREDITED" pursuant to CHED policies and rules. The
highest accreditation that a college can get is Level IV. AACCUP
is under the auspicies of the Federation of Accrediting Agencies in the
Philippines (FAAP) that is recognized and authorized by CHED to cetify the
accredited status of programs granted by the different accrediting
agencies in accordance with its own standards accepted by CHED. In
line with this milestone undertaking of the Colleges, AACCUP Executive
Director Manuel T. Corpus commended the CSC Administration for its
"steadfast cooperation to the development undertakings of AACCUP and
in its efforts in supporting quality education through
accreditation." |
