Jubilee Youth Day 2000

The Cathedral Parish Youth Day held last December 17 at the Risen Christ Social Hall was no less than a whopping success. Attended by at least 410 delegates representing various groups and academic institutions, it pondered on the theme “Socially-aware Young People Towards Building Up a Christian Community in the Third Millennium” with the help of Fr. Boyet Gapaz, Diocesan Executive Secretary for Social Action, and Mr. Joel Jordan, Diocesan Executive Assistant for the New Evangelization Pastorale, as resource speakers.

Asked for an evaluation, Fr. Joseph Saratan, the “kerygmatic” Parish Youth Director of Virac, described the gathering as follows: “(The event) was well participated and promotive of country-building (as) it placed the young people of Virac into an a-ha experience upon knowing their social circumstances, and into a challenging moment of being able to dialogue with the situation in a Christian perspective.” He also identified the message of the event in the following words: “The youth of our province today are urgently wanting as far as social awareness is concerned but, once stirred-up conscientiously and motivated with a Christian sense, are sure to rally together with a vision for a better society and future.”

For a job well done, we salute Fr. Saratan, and acknowledge the precious participation of the Federated Youth Centro Catolico, the Parish Youth Ministry for the Youth (PYMY), the Neo-Youth, the Anawim Youth, district/barangay youth associations, representatives from the El Shaddai, youth choirs, the Diocesan Youth Volunteers of Catanduanes, the Catanduanes State Colleges Laboratory School, the Catanduanes College, the Catanduanes Institute of Technology, and the Catanduanes National High School.

The Virac Cathedral Parish would also like to thank those who extended their magnanimous support to the successful celebration of Inmaculada 2000. The Cathedral Clergy are also one in wishing all Tribune patrons and readers a grace-filled Jubilee Christmas and a bountiful New Year. May the Incarnate Word give us the grace to be born in the Holy Spirit.
