Other Developments

Teacher, 60, mauled by jobless husband

A jobless man landed behind bars recently in Panganiban town after he was arrested by authorities for allegedly physically abusing his 60-year old wife.

The incident occurred at 11:30 A.M. of Nov. 19 in barangay Taopon when neighbors saw Asuncion de Jesus y dela Cruz, a public school teacher, being maltreated by her unemployed husband, Jesus de Jesus. The husband allegedly boxed her several times and hit her with a piece of wood in the different parts of the body, sending her to the Our Lady of Fatima Hospital for treatment.

In another development, a member of the organizing committee of the popular Christmas Cheers festival was robbed of valuables in his San Isidro Village home in Virac last week.

Armando M. Ala, 61, told police that the crime occurred between 1 to 2 A.M. of November 19, with the unknown culprits destroying the window of the comfort room. While inside, the robbers ransacked the house, carting away P18,000 in cash, important documents, two bottles of imported wine including a Chivas Regal, one sack of rice, a camera, two leather belts, Ala's black wallet containing P3,500 and even took a fancy to assorted foodstuffs in the refrigerator.

This is the second time the Ala residence has been robbed in recent years. The barangay hosts a squatter's lair of known thieves and robbers who have been implicated in recent criminal incidents in the capital town.

Meanwhile, Virac investigators have traced items stolen from an engineer's dirty kitchen to a San Pedro resident.

A team led by SPO2 Josefin Toledo recovered the double-burner gas stove and a camouflage jacket stolen last Nov. 16 from the San Roque residence of Engr. Roberto Garcia to the residence of a certain Bobit Sorrera y Gianan, 21, single, and a resident of San Pedro. The operation was launched on the basis of a search warrant issued by RTC Branch 42 Judge Nilo B. Barsaga.
