BIR here remains ahead of tax goal The local office of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) remains on track to surpass its revenue collection goal for the current year as it posted impressive figures in its October effort.According to the latest report issued by BIR regional director Rene Q. Aguas, the Virac Revenue District Office (RDO) has so far collected a total of P52,719,651.92 for the first 10 months of 2000. This is P3,724,651.92 or 7.60 percent higher than the goal for the same period of P48,995,000.00. The same figure is also higher by P6,372,090.68, or 13.75 percent, than the collection for year 1999. As a result, Virac placed second to Legazpi City, which is 15.13 percent over goal and 20.23 percent over prior-year collection, in performance in seven RDOs in the Bicol region. On a month-to-month basis, Virac RDO's tax take of P5,438,480.18 is off by 14.04 percent or P888,203.37 than last year's October collection of P6,326,683.55. However, the figure is P438,480.18 (8.77 percent)greater than the October 2000 goal of P5,000,000.00. Still without a Revenue District Officer months after the retirement of then RDO Paterno Macandog, the Virac RDO is being run, ably as it seems, by officer-in-charge Daisy T. Baroma with the support of its professional staff.
