Footstep
cashier denies yarn The cashier of Zenco Footstep branch in the capital town has denied allegations of discourtesy committed on a customer as published in a Tribune column. Myrna B. Vargas, who worked for 14 years with the store, denied she was fired from her job, saying that she submitted her resignation on November 23, 2000, more than a month before the alleged incident. She expressed sadness that the complaint, which she claims is untrue and exaggerated, occurred on the last week of her stay with the company as her resignation took effect on December 31, 2000. Vargas told the Tribune that, contrary to what was published in the columns of Joel Son Panti, she did not say what was alleged. She averred that she asked the customer, whom she identified as the columnist's common-law wife, if she had change so she would not have to wait. Vargas claimed that store at the time was having difficulty changing large bills and one of her companions was out scrounging for small bills when the customer made her purchase. The ex-cashier also claimed that shed did not shout at the customer as alleged, stressing that if that were true, her voice would have been heard by her boss, Jose Manuel de Hitta, who was holding office just at the back of the cashier's cubicle. She said she was forced to make the statement as she was emotionally affected by the allegations as was her husband and family. |
