2 hurt in stabbings

A farmer who wanted a fight got his wish last December 29 when he was stabbed by a fisherman in Panay island, Bagamanoc town, police reported last week.

Magin Cueva y Teope, 45, married and a resident of barangay Bagatabao, allegedly entered the house of suspect Edwin Tomazar y Torio, 45, single and a fisherman of sitio Late in barangay Quigaray on or about 4 P.M. Already armed with a bolo, Tomazar challenged the suspect to a duel.

Tomazar obliged, stabbing the victim with a 12-inch stainless kitchen knife, sending Cueva to Bagamanoc town proper and then to the Viga district hospital for treatment.
In the other incident, Victor Gonzales y Ibatuan, 40, married and a farmer of barangay Sta. Cruz, Pandan, was walking on his way home from the poblacion when, upon reaching a dark place in sitio Biyong, someone stabbed him several times. He was taken to the Pandan district hospital while police are still tracing the unidentified suspect.

Meanwhile, Pandan police are holding in custody a wooden banca being fought over by two alleged owners, one of them from a neighboring town.

Alleged original owner Teofisto Vega of San Joaquin, Panganiban earlier coordinated with SPO1 Florencio Eubra and PO2 Juan Dominguez in a bid to recover his missing banca. The two cops conducted a search operation at a swampy area in Pandan and found it in possession of a certain Rene Castillo y Villarey in Pandan del Norte.

Castillo claimed that he bought the vessel from an unidentified person delivering nipa shingles from Panganiban to Pandan. The police have refused to release the banca in the light of the conflicting claims.
