Concepcion chosen Red Cross chairman

Atty. Miguel Concepcion got a resounding vote of confidence as chairman of the board of the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) Catanduanes chapter during the Biennial Chapter Assembly at the capitol dome last week.

Aside from Concepcion, the new board which will serve for two years include businessman Antonio Kiong, vice chairman; DECS supervisor Dr. Salve San Juan, secretary; CSC Prof. Estrella Placides, assistant secretary; Dr. Ma. Cecilia Zantua, treasurer; Aurora Manlangit, assistant treasurer; and, PBM Fred A. Gianan, Jr., auditor. The post of counsellor has been left vacant as the chairman, who is a lawyer, is more than able to handle its functions.

Placides, Manlangit and PBM Gianan were among the 12 new members of the board elected from 23 nominees during the Dec. 28 assembly. The other nine new directors are Ma. Daisy Gapaz, PNP deputy provincial director Col. Al Vergelio Remo, retired DPWH Engr. Monico Genogaling, Virac municipal engineer Fernan Gianan, population officer Romarico Idanan, DECS district supervisor Domingo Robles, PBM Lilia Evangelista, Caramoran councilor Neil Asanza, DZVC broadcaster Jocelyn Buena, retired CSC mentor Pedro Bonafe, Engr. Nieva Santelices, and Panganiban vice mayor Gregorio Angeles, who won the last spot in a tiebreak with Dr. Jane Rubio and Jesus Tapel.

Other prominent nominees who failed to get the nod of voting delegates and nominees themselves were Air Transportation Office OIC Manuel Magdaraog, Virac councilor Sammy Besa and Dr. Aly Romano of San Andres.

The newly elected directors joins incumbents Concepcion, Kiong, Zantua, PBM Edwin T. Tanael, Armando Ala, Delia Bagadiong, Molito Chavez and DTI provincial director Ireneo B. Panti.

The new directors were immediately sworn into office by PNRC Secretary General Mrs. Lourdes R. Loyola, who also presided over the induction of the new chapter board officers later that night at the chapter building at the IPHO compound.
