ROTC
cadets shed
blood for PNRC
More
than 10,000 cc of blood was given up by cadets
of the Catanduanes State Colleges (CSC) Reserve
Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Unit to the
Philippine National Red Cross here early this
month.
The
bloodletting activity last Feb. 4, 2001 at the
CSC Gymnasium was held through the initiative of
Maj. Ruben B. Alberto, (Cav) PA,
commander 0f 503rd (CAT) CDC and concurrent
commandant of the ROTC of Catanduanes State
Colleges.
The
activity was successfully administered by the
joint efforts of the Provincial Health Office (PHO)
team led by Dr. Alvin Ravalo and the twelve (12)
members from Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC)
led by Annelyn Gianan as head representative.
Among other members of PHO team were Dr.
Teresita Pablico, Dr. Nerissa Guerrero and five
(5) other nurses.
The
bloodletting was aimed at organizing an ROTC
unit who will work as a partner of PNRC by
tapping its cadets as regular blood donors and
instilling into the minds of both young and old
the value of saving other lives through
voluntary blood donation. It was also aimed at
mobilizing other sectors of the community to
participate in the voluntary and non-profit
collection of human blood.
Forty-one
cadets donated a total of 10,250 cc of blood of
types A (2,000cc), B (2,500cc), O (5,500cc) and
AB (250cc). The cadets who did not qualify as
blood donors instead underwent blood typing for
use as future reference when they reached the
proper age required for qualified donor.
Maj.
Alberto expressed his heartfelt thanks to the
participating team, saying that their efforts
were not in vain as there is a great need for
human blood supply in the province of
Catanduanes.
