PBM's
nephew, 2 others
caught
in shabu raid
A
nephew of a provincial board member and two
other persons were arrested last week by Virac
police authorities who caught the trio in the
act of repacking shabu.
Acting
on information phoned in by concerned citizens,
a team led by police chief Supt. Rande V. Rosero
raided the house owned by Giovanni Sarmiento y
Lucero, alias "Baga," 34, married and
a resident of Gogon Sirangan, at 7 P.M. of Feb.
8.
Inside,
the team caught Sarmiento and two other suspects
- Domingo de Leon, Jr. y Vargas, 30, married, of
Gogon Centro, and Noli Vargas y Panti, 30,
single, of Concepcion - in the act of repacking
a white powder believed to be methampetamine
hydrochloride into small plastic sachets.
The
trio and one other unidentified suspect fled the
scene, leaving behind on a table five sachets of
shabu placed inside a matchbox, two cigarette
lighters, candles, a piece of aluminum foil, and
P300 in cash thrown outside the house.
Pending
the formal filing of criminal charges for
violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1972, as
amended, de Leon and Vargas were released by the
police two days later.
Sarmiento
remains at the Virac municipal jail after her
aunties, PBM Evelyn Lucero-Gutierrez and Dr.
Lilian Lucero-Olfindo, asked policemen to detain
their wayward nephew pending approval of his
application for rehabilitation by the Regional
Trial Court.
In
another development, three minors were caught in
the act of stealing engine parts stored in an
abandoned house in Valencia last week.
William
Que, 48, told the police that at about 10 A.M.
of Feb. 9, he and his companions caught
redhanded a 14-year old second-year student of
the Catanduanes National High School, a 19-year
old out-of-school youth from Gogon Sirangan, a
13-year old Grade 6 pupil at the Virac Central
Elementary school and one Lando Violato of Igang
while stealing different parts of a six-by-six
truck engine stored at an old, abandoned house
in Igang. Two of the suspects escaped after
noticing the approach of Kag. Mario Olagbay.
