BFAD
reminds LGUs to stick to drug list
The
Bureau of Food and Drug has reminded local
government units to the government-approved list
of essential drugs in the procurement of drug
products.
Local
BFAD representative Fermin Joel Bagadiong made
the rounds of local governments and rural health
units last week to impress upon them the need to
comply with the pertinent provisions of
Executive Order No. 49, which directs the
mandatory use of the Philippine National Drug
Formulary (PNDF) Volume I as the basis for
procurement of drug products by the government.
The
EO was issued by then Pres. Fidel V. Ramos to
promote the rational use of drugs and medicines
in government and as a logical extension of a
DOH department order which makes mandatory the
use of the PNDF or Essential Drugs List as the
basis for the procurement of drug products by
the Department of Health.
The
BFAD agent distributed copies of the PNDF volume
to RHUs to serve as their basis for procuring
drug supplies. Bagadiong informed that, as a
matter of policy, Philhealth does not reimburse
drugs or medicine not included in the Essential
Drugs List.
