GSP holds training course for teachers

More than a hundred young teachers and would-be mentors attended last week's Basic Training Course of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines at the GSP Training Hall in Virac.

Aimed at providing basic activities for the participants, the course was held last Jan. 26-28 and was participated in by teachers and practicing teachers from the Virac North and South Districts, Bato East, San Miguel North, Baras North, San Andres East and West, nationalized high schools in Virac, San Miguel Rural Development High School, Catanduanes State Colleges Laboratory High School, and Catanduanes College.

The course likewise enabled the participants to have a deeper understanding of the role, duties and responsibilities of being a troop leader and to appreciate the lasting values of scouting as a means of service to others. The course is also targeted at ensuring the proper implementation of the GSP Program, thus strengthening scouting in the school and the community.

Among the trainers and facilitators who lent their hands to the activity were Mrs. Genena Robles, Mrs. Lourdes Rodriguez, Mrs. Emelina Tabuzo, Mrs. Bella Pitajen, Ms. Antonia Molina, Mrs. Estrella Placides and Mrs. Socorro dela Rosa.

In another development, nine Girl Scouts and two families of deceased members have received their insurance claims for the past year. Scouts Rogelio Pagsiat, Olfindo Custodio, Rogelio Teodones, Camilo Teope, Estrella Belaro, Romulo Emerenciana, Ernesto Zafe, Antonio Timuat and Pura Mimay received a total of P13,744.90 as medical reimbursements. On the other hand, the family of Maria T. Arcilla got P14,000 as death benefit while the family of Marino Castro received P1,000 as natural death benefit.
