CSC to host 2001 Regional SCUAA

Bicol’s finest athletes from tertiary state colleges and universities are set to converge here and unleash their sporting skills to the hilt when the Catanduanes State Colleges plays host to the regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) regional meet on March 5 to 10, 2001.

The CSC Varsitarians are poised to defend their basketball crown against their toughest rivals from Bicol University. It may be recalled that CSC cagers and lawn tennis athletes reigned supreme during last year’s edition in Mandaon, Masbate. Hoping to improve on its overall second runner-up finish in Masbate, the CSC team will bank on its players’ prowess honed by rigid preparations, plus the fortuitous factor of home court advantage.

The sports competition will feature a modified schedule of events, with swimming and athletics set in Naga City Sports Complex and the rest at the Virac Sports Complex and CSC grounds.

In preparation for the regional games, the CSC is sponsoring a Regional Sports Clinic this Jan. 30-31, 2001 to be attended by representatives from participating schools in Bicol. CSC sports coordinator and overall chairman Prof. Mateo I. Rodriguez has invited resource speakers from the Philippine Sports Commission to talk on selected ball games as well as on dancesport. A pool of referees and officials from among the delegates of coaches will also be created.
