Laborer
slain
in
own shanty Virac
police authorities have found evidence of foul play in the death of a
laborer discovered decomposing in his own shanty in an isolated area in
barangay Buenavista. The
body of Leopoldo Masagca y Gonzales, 56, single and a resident of the
barangay, was found last Jan. 20 at 10 A.M. by one Teofilo Bermejo who
purposely came to Masagca's hut to ask for some papaya. When
found, Masagca's body was lying face down, with wounds on the head and
shoulders as well as bloodstains on his clothes. According to PO2 Lino
Obias, the victim probably struggled with his attackers as borne out by
wounds in his forearm and body. Neighbors say Masagca had not known
enemies in the area. Meanwhile,
a Virac resident who lost his tricycle last Jan. 19 recovered it the next
day - minus vital parts apparently cannibalized by the unidentified
suspects. Alexander
Sarmiento, 34, of barangay San Vicente, reported the loss of his red
Yamaha RS100 last 10:15 P.M. of Jan. 19 while it was parked near the
residence of businessman Angeles Co. Twelve
hours later on Jan. 20, someone found the tricycle or what was left of it.
The tricycle had lost its sidecar, gasoline tank, two rear wheels, shock
absorbers, signal lights, carburetor needle, headlight, battery, side
mirror and other items estimated to cost P20,000. It
may be recalled that months ago, the sport motorcycle of Rev. Fr. Joseph
Saratan was taken from its parking space near the Virac cathedral. It was
days later when a bird hunter came upon the priest's motorcycle already
cannibalized by unknown perpetrators at a grassy area at the back of the
Area Equipment motorpool. Police have yet to arrest any suspect in the
crime. |
