NHA
releases checks
for
nipa shingles The
National Housing Authority (NHA) last week finally released the money for
the distribution of P1.7-million worth of nipa shingles to poor families
under the Lingap Para sa Mahihirap Program funded in coordination with
Rep. Leandro B. Verceles, Jr. The
solon and NHA regional director Alberto Perfecto released the checks to
municipal mayors Francisco Idanan of Caramoran, Antonio Romano of San
Andres, and Serafin Sarmiento of Baras as well as municipal treasurers and
other officials. In
his message, the congressman said the program will give much-needed
support to people in the grassroots as it would benefit about about 5,000
poor families. He
also said that newly-appointed housing czar Rep. Mike Defensor is a close
friend and that whoever succeeds Verceles in the May 14 polls, "he or
she will get substantial support from Mike Defensor and NHA regional
director Perfecto." It
was disclosed that there is also a pending request for nipa shingle
distribution for the victims of storm Reming in December last year as well
as the provision of emergency housing assistance for poor families being
negotiated by the solon. To
be treated as a grant, the P1.7-M allocation was parceled out as follows:
P172,000 each for Virac, San Andres, Viga, Caramoran, and Pandan; P155,000
for Bato; and, P137,000 each for Bagamanoc, Panganiban, San Miguel,
Gigmoto and Baras. Under
the Memorandum of Agreement signed by municipal mayors with NHA general
manager Angelo F. Leynes and Rep. Verceles, the nipa shingles would be
procured and distributed according to the list prepared by the Municipal
Social Welfare and Development Offices and endorsed by Verceles. Anywhere
from 10 to 15 poor households in every barangay will receive 200 to 300
shingles each as determined by the mayors. The NHA will monitor the
implementation of the project in all 11 towns. |
