Gov
takes "Ulat" to the grassroots Unable to report on the State of the Province before the divided Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Governor Hector S. Sanchez chose to bring his case to the grassroots, scheduling a series of "Ulat sa Lalawigan" in all 11 towns of the province. Last week, the governor and his team of provincial department heads went to the towns of Bato, San Miguel and Gigmoto, distributing copies of his administration's "Ulat" and presenting the accomplishments of the different departments. He also took the occasion to criticize Rep. Leandro B. Verceles, Jr. for the alleged ghost projects undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the millions spent for the CatNet and the moribund Telepono sa Barangay, which Sanchez said, have not benefited the farmers, fishermen and the ordinary folks in the island. To keep the crowd's attention from wandering, the governor reportedly raffled off items such as flat irons, sacks of NFA rice, thermos bottles, electric fans, kerosene stoves and wall clocks bearing Sanchez's picture.According to reliable reports, the team encountered only one kink in their drive to inform the people of the accomplishments of the Sanchez administration. In San Miguel, few barangay captains showed up for the "Ulat" after Mayor Francisco Camano, Jr. allegedly sent them a memo informing that the scheduled meeting had been postponed. Last Jan. 15, the congressman held his own "Ulat sa Distrito" before barangay captains, provincial elective officials, municipal mayors and other functionaries at the spacious Virac Sports Center. |
