Korean investors want big projects Three Koreans who came to Catanduanes last Saturday told provincial officials to present to them feasible projects that would involve billions of pesos in potential investments. The "big-time" investors led by Lee Hyun Duk arrived on board a chartered airplane in the morning of Jan. 27 and immediately paid a courtesy call on Governor Hector S. Sanchez. Lee and his companions - Park Bo Wong and Kim Wa Jin - were also accompanied here by a certain Jimmy Lelis, Capt. Lez Florez, and Jun Makabuhay, reportedly Lakas-NUCD's regional director and the governor's intermediary with the investors. At the governor's office, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Engr. Luis L. Surtida gave a briefing on the province's investment potentials. The talks gave the impression that Lee's group wants to invest billions of pesos in big projects. After the briefing, Gov. Sanchez went with the Koreans on an aerial survey of the province. The visitors left for Manila on Sunday, with a refueling stop scheduled in Legaspi City. It was the second group of foreign investors to arrive in the province since last year, when a large delegation from an obscure Chinese city came to scout for possible projects as well as potential markets for their construction equipment and expertise as well as farm equipment. |
