stabbed in Virac, Baras A student from Viga was stabbed in the back at a residential area in front of the Catanduanes State Colleges last week after he tried to come to the succor of boardmates in trouble. Virac police chief Supt. Rande V. Rosero identified the victim as Alvin Tuplano y Usero, 21, single and a resident of Oco, Viga temporarily staying at the boarding house of Jaime Villanueva in Eastern Cavinitan. The report said Tuplano was walking towards his boardmates who were apparently involved in some trouble at around 11:00 P.M. of Jan. 3, 2001 when suspect Freddie Matienzo, alias "Jefferson" and resident of the barangay, emerged from a dark portion of the street, came from behind and buried a bladed weapon twice on the victim's back. Matienzo ran away while Tuplano was rushed by his companions to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center. Police have so far unearthed no motive for the stabbing. In a similar incident, a farmer was on his way home on New Year's day when he was stabbed by an unidentified assailant in Baras town.
