CSC
president earns
citation from BCARRD
The
Bicol Consortium for Agriculture and Resources
Research and Development (BCARRD) recently
bestowed a citation on Catanduanes State
Colleges (CSC) president Dr. Adolfo S. Bagadiong
for steering the organization as its chairman
from 1999 to 2000.
The
award given during BCARRD's 25th anniversary
came at the conclusion of Dr. Bagadiong's
one-year term at the helm of the Regional
Research and Development Coordination Council (RRDCC),
the highest policy-making body of the BCARRD. He
received the citation from BCARRD consortium
director Dr. Georgina J. Bordado and Camarines
Sur State Agricultural College (CSSAC) president
Dr. Magno S. Conag, who will take over
Bagadiong's post.
The
RRDCC defines the broad policies and operations
of BCARRD, a group of agencies in the Bicol
region supporting the National Research Network
in agriculture and natural resources and devoted
to the optimal use of limited resources in the
region.
During
Bagadiong's incumbency as RRDCC chair, BCARRD
contributed significantly to the region's
agricultural development through research and
development on high-end science, technology
promotion, R & D capability governance and
policy advocacy. For the period 1998-2000, 12
technologies were generated by BCARRD for
utilization by pili, coconut, abaca, pineapple,
vegetables, mangrove and rattan farmers and
processors in Region 5.
It
was also during his term that BCARRD garnered
third place in the Best Paper section of the
National Agriculture and Resources Research and
Development System, the highest distinction so
far received by the consortium in the field.
The
consortium also contributed to enhancing
technology transfer in the region through its
"Aramon Ta, Banwaan" school-on-the-air
program, the establishment of "Techno Pinoy"
Centers in Catanduanes and Camarines Sur, the
"Magsasaka Siyentista" program, the
Techno Gabay program, agri-fairs and the hosting
of Farmers Information Technology System (FITS)
Catanduanes Evaluation.
BCARRD
aims to institutionalize and promote integrated
research and devcelopment program that will
facilitate and hasten the effective transfer and
commercialization of technologies responsive to
regional needs. It further aims to harmonize and
synchronize R&D activities for speed,
economy, relevance and broadbased impact.
