Texters'
help sought
in anti-crime drive
PNP
provincial director Supt. Freddie O. Panen has
enlisted texting addicts in his command's drive
to curb lawlessness and criminal activities in
Catanduanes.
In
a press release sent out last week, Col. Panen
dubbed his campaign as "E Text Mo Ako,
Magtabangan Kita-PD" and urged cellphone
users to send text messages to his Globe
cellphone (0917-420-7854) in furtherance of the
campaign against all forms of criminality.
He
said he conceptualized the parallel law
enforcement program of text messaging as an
effective tool in crime fighting, noting that
the communications medium is considered by most
people as an inexpensive leisure activity.
Col.
Panen bared that the program aims to establish a
direct linkage between the civilian populace and
the PNP provincial director for the purspose of
maintaining peace and order and public safety.
It would help the director manage the local
police force through the cellphone users' direct
observation of their neighborhood and place of
work.
Not
only would it break the barrier between the
protector and pertetrator of illegal and
criminal activity, Panen observed, it would
bring to the attention of the PNP provincial
director all possible transgressions of law,
including some PNP officers, other law
enforcers, the military or government officials
who may be colluding with criminal elements.
He
asked cellphone users not to think that the
peace and order campaign would just be a waste
of time and money, saying that they could be
useful citizens in the pursuit of the campaign
although they would have to shell out P1.00 per
message.
