Virac PNP is most citizen-friendly

The National Police Commission has adjudged the Virac police station as the most citizen-friendly in the province of Catanduanes.

The award worth P10,000.00 given last month kicked off a fruitful year for the police station manned by Supt. Rande V. Rosero and his personnel, which bagged all but one of the awards during last week's celebration of the 10th Philippine National Police (PNP) Day at Camp Francisco Camacho.

The Virac police office was picked over the 10 other stations in Catanduanes on the basis of its excellent relationship with the community, through the conduct of informal discussions, support for community activities and availability of policemen in case of need; services rendered beyond the call of duty, through the provision of counselling services to troubled youth and providing solutions for key police-community "friction" points; involvement in community projects and activities; and, concern for the environment by maintaining health and sanitary facilities and clean and green surroundings.

The Selection and Awards Committee for the provincial search was composed of Napolcom acting provincial officer Adelaida A. Sarmiento as chair; PNP deputy provincial director Supt. Ramon Ranara; DILG provincial director Orlando L. Mendoza; Virac PLEB member and Kag. Virgilio A. Candelaria; and, Francia, Virac barangay captain Nelly V. Arcilla.

The national search, which will award P1-million to the winning police station, was held in celebration of the 5th Police-Community Relations Month last January 2001.
