AMWSLAI searching for AFP, PNP singing stars

The Air Material Wing Savings and Loan Association, Inc. (AMWSLAI) has launched a nationwide search for the AFP-PNP Singing Star 2000, promising P50,000 for the grand prize winner.

The contest is open to all bonafide members of the association who are in active service for at least six months, are amateur singers, and aged 18 to 50 years old.

Interested personnel have been asked to render two songs in English and Filipino recorded in a clean cassette tape or compact disc. A preliminary screening will pick 20 semi-finalists this Nov. 22, with the semifinals itself on Dec. 9.

Five finalists, or one each from the Philippine Air Force, Philippine Army, Philippine Navy, Philippine National Police and one AMWSLAI member organization, will be chosen along with five others picked regardless of service affiliation. They will compete in the grand finals slated Dec. 15 at the AFP Theatre in Camp Aguinaldo.

The prizes AMWSLAI is dangling are following: P50,000 plus trophy for the grand prize winner as well as P20,000 for his mother unit; P30,000 for the first runner-up plus P15,000 for his unit; and, P20,000 for the second runner-up plus P10,000 for his unit.

Nonwinning finalists will receive P5,000 each plus cash prizes for their mother units. They will be judged on the basis of vocal quality (35 percent), musicality (35 percent) and overall impact (30 percent).

Just the other week, the PNP provincial office conducted a singing contest of its own to choose its representative to the PNP search for singing policeman and non-uniformed personnel.

SPO1 Romeo Panti bested PO2 Lino Obias (2nd), SPO1 Pantaleon Castillo, Sr. (3rd), Antonio Teope, Melchor Buban and Fe Madrid.
