Stude hurt in fall from bus' topload

A student going home for the weekend instead got an unwanted stay at the hospital when he fell from the topload of the bus he was riding to Panganiban town.

Zenaida Ogena, 48, of Cabuyoan, Panganiban, told Virac police that her son, Joey, 21, a student of the Catanduanes State Colleges, was riding on top of the passenger bus Rodulfo Liner III when the mishap occurred in Nursery, San Miguel.

The student fell from his moving perch, resulting in various injuries to his body. It was not known whether Ogena was lulled to sleep by the long ride or thrown from his place by a sudden movement of the vehicle. The bus operator, Paulino Rodulfo, agreed to shoulder the cost of treatment of his briefly airborne passenger.

In a related development, a suspect in the carnapping of a motorcycle was arrested last week as two more vehicles were added to the long list of victims of the still unsolved cases.

Last week, SPO2 Josefin Toledo brought to the police station Roderick Soliveres, allegedly a suspect in the loss of the black Honda EX-3 motorcycle owned by Lilia Tabo of Cavinitan last December 15. No other details were released by the authorities.

Last Jan. 19, Alexander Sarmiento, 34, of San Vicente, lost his red Yamaha RS100 tricycle with municipal franchise number 1049 while it was parked near the residence of businessman Angeles Co.

Five days earlier, Rodino Molina, 56, a resident of Francia, reported to police that at 5:30 A.M. of Jan. 14, his stainless jeep with plate number CGP-816 went missing from its parking place outside his home.

Two hours before, the white Daihatsu Ferroza of Salve Storzum, 49, a native of Magnesia del Sur temporarily staying in a rented house in Constantino, was damaged when its front, right-side window was hit and broken by a unidentified person.
