Atty. Velasco heads IBP chapter anew

Prominent practicing lawyer Angeles A. Velasco has been elected president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines - Catanduanes Chapter for the seventh time in his storied legal career.

In the biennial election of officers and directors held at the IBP Hall at the Hall of Justice last Saturday (Feb. 24), Atty. Velasco garnered 14 votes, six more than the other candidate, Atty. Juan G. Atencia, who got eight.

For the vice presidency, Atty. Bruno S. Cabrera and Atty. Manuel A. Magistrado repeated history when they had identical 11 votes. As a result, they will halve the term of office just like when they ended up tied for the presidency two years ago.

The other IBP officers who were elected were: secretary, Atty. Jose V. Mapa (19 votes); treasurer, Atty. Rafael N. Zurbito, Jr. (17 votes); and, for five vacant seats at the board of directors, Atty. Marlin F. Velasco (16), Atty. Gregorio M. Sarmiento, Jr. (16), Atty. Dexter A. Francisco (14), Atty. Jose T. Tablizo (14), Atty. Merito L. Urgel (16) and Atty. Pio T. Rodulfo (19).
