1 dead, 5 hurt in random violence

A farmer in San Andres was stabbed to death by another man last week, which saw five other persons injured in four other unrelated violent incidents involving the use of bladed weapons.

In San Andres town, Michael Torres y Lucero, 18, single and a residence of barangay San Isidro, was on his way home at 4 A.M. of Feb. 8 after a drinking spree with his companions at the house of one Silverio Villegas when he was stabbed once in the left chest by Dennis Tanana y Villegas, 25, single and also a farmer. The suspect fled immediately after the attack and remains at large while Torres' body was taken to the Rural Health Unit where he was autopsied by Dr. Eduardo Kho.

The spate of stabbings started last Feb. 3 in San Andres, Pandan during a benefit dance at the barangay plaza when suspect Ronnie Antonio y Domingo, 23, single and a student, created trouble while under the influence of liquor. When the audience started panicking, Manny Alfon y Rima, 24, and barangay tanod Romeo Barro y de Quiroz, 45, single, tried to pacify Antonio but the suspect got irked, drew a knife and attacked the duo. Antonio fled while the injured men were taken to the Pandan district hospital for treatment.

Four hours later in the early morning of Feb. 4, a certain Barceta alias "Palong" and an unidentified companion from barangay Botinagan was roaming around the Soboc barangay plaza in Viga when a barangay tanod accidentally brushed by Barceta's head. The suspect's friend punched tanod Romeo Timwat, who retaliated by punching the man five times. Unknown to the tanod, Barceta drew a "balisong" and stabbed Timwat at the left portion of his back.

At almost the same time in Palnab del Sur, Virac, Reynaldo Magtangob y Romero, 31, married and a fisherman, was singing his heart out during a drinking session with Noli Tablate y Ubalde, 27, married and also a fisherman, at the house of Ranulfo Lumbao when the former advised the already tipsy Tablate to go home. Tablate complied but came back later armed with a knife, which he stuck in Magtangob's right arm.

The following day at 5:40 A.M., Johnny de Leon y Sambajon, 32, married and a security guard from Palnab del Sur was stabbed on his left chest with a kitchen knife by Carlos Llasos y Arcilla, 16, of Gogon Centro. SPO1 Benjamin Valeza said that de Leon was playing "pie que" at a wake in Gogon when a heated argument erupted between him and the suspect, who left and came back wielding the knife. The victim survived the attack and was taken to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center.
