Verceles behind bid to unseat PBM Gianan?

Congressman Leandro B. Verceles, Jr. is reportedly behind the plan to unseat Provincial Board Member Fredeswindo A. Gianan, Jr. and install former San Andres Mayor Lydia T. Romano in his stead.

This was claimed last week as the Verceles bloc in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan - composed of Vice Gov. Alfred M. Aquino, PBMs Carlos Aguilar, Catalino Gabao, Jr., Evelyn Gutierrez, Lilia Evangelista, and ABC executive vice president Arsenio Romero - reportedly passed a resolution declaring PBM Gianan's post as "vacant."

Sponsored by PBM Aguilar and concurred by all members who attended the Dec. 3 session boycotted by the Sanchez-identified PBMs, the resolution reportedly stated that PBM Gianan's post may be declared vacant "by operation of law" as his nomination to the seat vacated by his late father, PBM Fredeswindo T. Gianan, Sr., has been recalled by the Lakas leadership.

Vice Gov. Aquino did not deny that such a measure was considered while a known lawyer of the Verceles group who attended the session said it was withdrawn.

It is claimed that Rep. Verceles has offered to persuade Lakas secretary general Sen. Heherson Alvarez to withdraw his letter requesting Malacanang to revoke PBM Gianan's appointment due to the latter's not being a member of the party. The solon reportedly offered PBM Gianan a slot in his slate for the provincial board in the West district, in effect enticing him to desert the group identified with Gov. Hector S. Sanchez.
